Mechanical Engineer
Boeing Capstone
** Note that due to Boeing NDAs I cannot disclose the exact details of the project **

For my senior capstone project I was able to work directly with Boeing engineers to design an improved part used in interior structures. I served as the team lead of a three student group. We were assigned to design an improved interior component to reduce installation time of various components. This involved a complete engineering design process including concept generation, concept screening & selection, material & manufacturing selection, computer-aided and hand stress analysis, prototyping, testing, and economic viability analysis.

As team lead of the project I was responsible for ensuring deliverables were met, managing budget and time constraints, and ensuring proper documentation of progress and results was taken. Examples of these responsibilities include spearheading monthly progress report presentations to stakeholders, creating schedules and timelines for group progress, and documenting the progress, analyses, and results in a formal written report.

With the small team dynamic I also served as the head designer. This involved bringing the selected concept to life via CAD and FEA as well as traditional hand calculations to ensure the product withstands the required loading conditions provided by Boeing with the appropriate factor of safety.

The project was a major success, resulting in a patent application to the US patent office with hopes of bringing the design to production.
